So I've been researching and e-mailing this week, and I'm starting to pick up the pace. I got in contact with someone at the Detroit Historical Museum who redirected me to someone at the Motown Museum. I've also e-mailed Martha Reeves and Gerald Early, who wrote "One Nation Under a Groove" who, incidentally, spoke at UM last week (just my luck). I also discovered from Ashley Lau, that the CAAS department is doing a Motown themed program this year. I called to reserve a place on a field trip to the Motown Museum, because I think that it will be good to go with some professors who have studied this.
WHAT NEXT
Creating a mock-up of what the place marker for each stop on the tour will look like.
Putting one full stop on the tour together. (I'm thinking it'll be Smokey Robinson).
Gathering info for my grant proposal.
Michelle,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you are going to join the CAAS group. When will that trip be held? Have you connected with the professors who are leading it? Seems like they would be good contacts in general. I suggest you connect before the tour to see how you can best take advantage of their expertise.
Have you made a plan for how many stops you're thinking about creating? What kind of place marker are you now considering? Last I had heard you were headed in a performative direction. I think you need to figure out how you can share more of what you are thinking about -- on your walls, on your blog, etc. What are the contents of a Smokey Robinson stop? Are you presenting history? Anecdotes? Current status? Presumably this become clear on your mock-up, but you should also be getting feedback on content generation.
