Friday Two

So I've almost completed the painting of my studio, it's looking a little like Easter...oh well.

I've decided that I want to focus on Motown and Detroit for my IP. I thought a lot about it, and realized i have a much stronger bond to Motown than musical theater. I want my IP to be informative and be placed in an educational setting. I know that there is a lot of information in this topic, so my next steps will be narrowing my interests down. I really enjoy the stories of the musicians who were discovered by Motown, and the lives they led before becoming big stars (Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Berry Gordy, The Jacksons, Temptations, etc.) because most of them grew up in Detroit or around it, similar to me and my family(by location, not upbringing). I think Motown draws me in because I've grown up with it, and I had and interesting schooling experience being a minority and being immersed in a culture completely different than my own. I want to go back to that.

WHAT I DID
-Got 2 books at the Grad, "Motown: Music, Money, Sex, and Power"(which I am reading) and "Music and Social Movements"(Which I'll probably skim)

-Painted the rest of my studio

-Went to the Music Library to search for more resources.

WHAT I ACCOMPLISHED
-Considering that I'm the most stressed I've ever been in my life, the fact that I've decided on a topic feels pretty good. I'll be much more focused now.

WHAT NEXT
-Reading

-Setting up a field trip to the Motown Museum. I want to talk to the curator to get some ideas on what i could research or discover that maybe has not been extensively covered.

-Not getting sick from stress.

FOR TUESDAY i think I'm going to pick a Motown musician and put a mini-bio together. But that might change by then....

How I'm feeling about IP so far: Warming up to it.
