Audio Seeking

I've been coordinating interviews this week, including one with Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson, who are a husband and wife songwriting team who penned "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "You're All I Need to Get By". The problem I'm facing now is that they, along with my uncle, are out of state, and therefore I have to conduct my interview over the phone. This would be fine, obviously, if I wasn't planning on using the audio in my project. I'm hoping to figure out a way to get audio from my uncle if it means having him record it on his end. Also, as far as Ashford and Simpson go, I'm hoping that if they are willing to interview, I can possibly make a trip to NYC for spring break (though as of now, I have absolutely no way of funding it).

I've also been working on some mock LP covers using a quote from the interview and an image relevant to the interviewee and the Motown history they address. Here is a very preliminary mock-up for my Uncle John and a fake one for my dad:

These images aren't relevant yet, but I working with my interviewees on collecting more photos.

WHAT NEXT

Interviewing my parents, and Elizabeth James again, this time with a Zoom recorder.

Collecting photos and LPs.

  1. Michelle,

It sounds like you've got a plan.

For Tuesday crits, think about how specifically the group can be helpful for the time allotted; what exactly can the group give you feedback on- so that you remain working in a highly productive mode. Do you want feedback on the LP covers? On your process? On the stories, or how you present them? What's going to be helpful and what's going to be distracting for your work? It'd be great to head into this crit knowing what you want to get out of it so you can keep working working working- and not get distracted by too many other ideas.

I'm excited to see where you're heading, and what you need feedback on.

    Amanda
